On page 93 of the online McIntosh and Otis pdf. version of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird , Scout and Jem are shooting their air rifles when Atticus tells them that it is a sin to kill a mockingbird .
I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do.

Mayella Ewell lies on the witness stand because she is afraid of her father, Bob Ewell , and because she is humiliated by her own attraction to Tom Robinson. She tells the jury that Tom beat and raped her when, in fact, it was her father who beat her when he saw her hugging and kissing an African American.

Atticus has a lot of innocence to him, he is a good man. Atticus did not think Bob Ewell would go as low as hurting his very own kin but in the end, Mr.
Henry Lafayette Dubose . An elderly, ill-tempered, racist woman who lives near the Finches. Although Jem believes that Mrs . Dubose is a thoroughly bad woman, Atticus admires her for the courage with which she battles her morphine addiction.
It is a sin to kill Tom Robinson because he is innocent, like a mockingbird. According to Miss Maudie, mockingbirds do no harm and only provide music for people to enjoy. Similarly, Tom Robinson has done no wrong to Mayella—on the contrary, he has helped and pitied her.
In Chapter 11, Atticus shoots a mad (rabid) dog in the street. In a larger symbolic sense, the dog , because it has rabies, is a dangerous threat to the community. In shooting the dog , then, Atticus is trying to protect the community from its most dangerous elements.
Ans: Scout was upset about atticus being so old because he cant play with him and never really does things a dad would. Atticus tells the children they’re not to kill mockingbirds because doing so is a sin.
