At that time, a dispatcher from the officer’s department will call the officer’s badge number out over the loud speaker three times and ask the officer to respond.

Open Road’s ” End of Watch ” was based on the experiences of Captain Jamie FitzSimons, a former LAPD patrol officer who worked South Los Angeles neighborhoods in the 1990s. This is the primary reason the movie rings true with an authentic approach to police work.
” End of Watch ” is about two officers, Officer Taylor (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Officer Zavala (Michael Pena). Fast forward two years (to ” Prisoners “)after the incident Officer Taylor moved from his wife and LA to Pennsylvania.
Like their characters on screen, L.A. native Gyllenhaal and Pena have become close friends . But that bond didn’t happen right away, according to writer/director David Ayer, who told MCT the actors were barely on speaking terms initially. Their friendship is apparent in how the actors now praise each other.

In police jargon, a roll call is a briefing “where supervisors take attendance, inspect uniform and equipment, inform the oncoming shift of any outstanding incidents that may have occurred, inform officers of suspects to be looking out for, relate any law or procedural changes, and so on.”
The three-volley salute is a ceremonial act performed at military funerals and sometimes also police funerals. It should not be confused with the 21 – gun salute (or 19- gun or 17- gun , etc.) which is fired by a battery of artillery pieces.
